Sol's Underground, or, more commonly, Sol's, is a dining service and convenience store that is located on the A floor of Sol Heumann Hall.
The area now occupied by Sol's was originally the location of the Corner Store. The Corner Store moved to the space formerly occupied by Nate's and the Nathaniel Rochester laundry room in 1999 and Sol's opened in Fall 2000.
In Fall 2003, Food Service entered into a contract with Sandella's to open Sandella's at Golisano. Sol's also reopened with Sandella's wraps, quesadillas and flatbread pizzas added to its inventory.
For the next five years, Sol's served as a convenience store with a small prepared food service. In 2008, RIT ceased renewing its contract with Sandella's due to inability to agree on terms. Sol's continued to serve flatbread-based prepared food by obtaining products from a different vendor.
In an effort to rebrand the store and expand its appeal, Sol's was renamed Sol's Underground in 2009. This included a significant makeover of the former Sandella's counter and changing the menu to its current modular, make-you-own-meal format.
At the food counter, personalized combinations of flatbread pizzas, quesadillas, wraps, paninis and Freshens® ice cream are prepared to order. A rotating variety of soups and other, smaller options are available regularly.
The convenience store section features a basic selection of school supplies, over-the-counter medication, hygienic products, beauty supplies, toys, candy, snacks, tools and magazines are available.
On weekdays before 9:00pm, Sol's also accepts cash. Sol's does not accept cash after 9:00pm on weekdays or at all on Saturday or Sunday.
