The founding president of RIT Dubai is Dr.Mustafa A.G. Abushagur.. He led the efforts to establish an RIT satellite campus in the middle east. He mediated the negotiations between Rochester Institute of Technology - New York and the government of the United Arab Emirates to set up a campus at the Dubai Silicon Oasis in Dubai, UAE.

The first official RIT Dubai Student Government was inaugurated in May 2013. The RIT-D SG overlooks the following: Student Activities and Life, Student Clubs and Organizations (SCO), Athletics and Dorms. We serve to represent the interests and concerns of the RIT Dubai student population, and advocate any of their issues and suggestions to the RIT Dubai administration and Dubai Silicon Authority. As SG, we hope to increase and nurture student involvement throughout the various activities on campus, whether it is related to Student Government, Athletics, Clubs and Organizations, Academia, Career Services and more.
Being located in the heart of the Dubai Silicon Oasis community, we do our best to contribute to the DSO community and schools nearby. We believe it is important to give back to the community. However, we do not limit ourselves to just DSO, as we are equally involved with initiatives and events that take place across the United Arab Emirates. We hope to continue to build our presence in the country in both the educational and professional scene.

ASME at RIT Dubai is a student chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. The objective of this chapter is to promote and enhance the technical competency and professional well-being of our members, and through quality programs and activities in mechanical engineering, better enable its practitioners to contribute to the well-being of humankind.
To enhance the student experience here at RIT Dubai, the Student Government and all active clubs strive to provide students with as many events as possible. These events include both those related to academia, and others simply dedicated to the students enjoyment
During the Fall semester of 2014 SG held multiple events, each of which were designed to encompass the traditions of all cultures so that no student felt left out. Starting off all the events was the club's fair in September, from which both new and old clubs were able to gather together and register new members. In celebration of Halloween during October, the SG events committee turned the entire first floor of the campus into a haunted house for one night which turned out to be a huge hit among students. For Thanks Giving in November, SG held a charity inspired event, during which students came together for a thanks giving dinner and prepared meals for the less fortunate afterwards. In the same month, SG also planned an excursion to a park in Al-Ain for a BBQ. To draw the semester in to a good end in December, SG held a Winter Ball at the JW Marriott and also held an event in celebration of UAE's National Day.
