OUTspoken is a Major Student Organization represents the GLBT community in Student Government.[1]

About Us

OUTspoken provides representation for the GLBT community within RIT’s Student Government. OUTspoken seeks to create an environment within the RIT community that is inclusive to all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions, and to eradicate heterosexism, homophobia and transphobia within the Rochester area. To accomplish this task, our Major Student Organization (MSO) seeks to partner with clubs and other organizations, such as RITGA and the GLBT Center, to provide programs and services, such as our GLBT speaker series, which will further educate the RIT community to GLBT concerns.

The purpose of this organization is to be an advocate for the rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) students through:

  1. Creating an environment within the RIT community that is inclusive to all sexual orientations and gender expressions.
  2. Eradicating heterosexism and homophobia primarily within the RIT community.
  3. Encouraging personal growth of all GLBT persons by providing educational, social and supportive programming and services.
  4. Representing the interests and concerns of the GLBT community to the Student Government of RIT.
  5. Partnering with other clubs/organizations to provide programs and services for the GLBT community.

In 2008-2009, Student Government president Ed Wolf aided in the creation of OUTspoken, an Major Student Organization that replaced the position of GLBT Senator.
