14th NTID Student Assembly

The Fourteenth NTID Student Assembly was the meeting of the legislative branch of the NTID Student Congress, composed of the organization, Greek organization and club representatives. It convened in CSD Student Development Center on September 14, 2010, and ended on May 10, 2011.

September 14, 2010, Week 2

NTID Business Club moved the motion. NSC appointed a new replacement for NTID Student Congress Vice-President. NSC needed NSA's approval. Seconded. NSC called Carolyn Huddleston to come. Carolyn gave a speech about her experience and her goals. She explained why she wanted this position. The silent vote result: 10 voted Yes. 0 voted Nay. The motion passed. NSA approved Carolyn Huddleston to be NTID Student Congress Vice-President


September 21, 2010, Week 3

Wolk moved to accept all Cassie Haynes Student Advisory Board (CHSAB) strategic planning committee members. Seconded. Casey Analco explained further. Approved: 10 Abstained: 1 CHSAB members were accepted by NSA.

Wolk also moved for CHSAB to have an office in Student Development Center. Seconded. Casey Analco explained in details.

Wolk and Sigma Sigma Sigma amended the motion by inserted “tentative” for the committee and criteria. Approved: 8 The amendment was approved. CHSAB will have an office in Student Development Center was approved by NSA. Approved: 8


October 5, 2010, Week 5

Hispanic Deaf Club moved for Spectrum to have a new seat in NTID Student Assembly. Seconded. Asian Deaf Club moved to close the discussion and vote. Seconded. Total of the representatives: 11 Approved: 10 Opposed: 0 NSA representatives approved the motion to have Spectrum to have a seat in NTID Student Assembly.

Asian Deaf Club moved for Masquers Drama Club to have a returning seat in NTID Student Assembly. Seconded. Sigma Sigma Sigma moved to close the discussion and vote. Seconded. Total of the representatives: 11 Approved: 10 Opposed: 0 NSA representatives approved the motion for Masquers Drama Club to have a seat in NTID Student Assembly.

Hispanic Deaf Club moved for Lunar Dance Deaf Club to have a seat in NTID Student Assembly. Seconded. Caribbean Deaf Club moved to vote. Seconded. NSA representatives approved the motion for Lunar Dance Deaf Club to have a seat in NSA.

Formal vote Approved: 9 Opposed: 0 Abstained: 1 NSA representatives approved Paul Silvasi as a NSA Vice-Speaker for academic year 2010-2011

Sabrina Speranza and Matthew Pituk were present for the position of the NSA Clerk. (Due to Matthew Pituk is competing; the information about Speranza and Pituk was not recorded.) Informal Vote Sabrina – 5 Matthew – 1 Abstained – 3 The majority of the vote: Sabrina Speranza won. NSA representatives approved Sabrina Speranza as a NSA Clerk for academic year 2010-2011.


October 12, 2010, Week 6

NSC took the floor to explain that the new Sergeant-At-Arms amendment bill was vetoed because there were only 5 supporters. There was not enough discussion. NSA needed to discuss more and NSA needed more votes. NSC Speaker reminded us that we do have the power to override the veto or accept the veto. Robert Nyczaj, the interim Sergeant-at-Arms, then announced that he accepted the veto because he felt the position would be a conflict with his other commitments. NSA accepted the veto.


November 9, 2010, Week 10

The motion to move the NTID Student Assembly Executive board fulfillment deadline to next quarter was rejected by NTID Student Congress because the bills were not clear. NSA had rewritten both bills. A representative needed to set the motion with the new bill. Spectrum moved to set the motion. The new bill is as follows: "I, Spectrum, move to suspend the clause Article XII, Section VI, K, of the bylaw." The remaining vacant positions of NTID Student Assembly executive board must be filled by the second week of winter quarter. Seconded by Ebony Club. 13 in favor. The motion passed.
