Riverknoll Apartments (abbreviations: RK, RKA) are on the western edge of RIT's campus, behind Global Village and the Fraternity Mansions. Riverknoll has 3 types of available units. There are 1,2, and 3 bedroom townhouses with 1, 3, and 4 person occupancy requirement. The units were built in 1968 as temporary housing but RIT decided to continue maintenance on the grounds and buildings and they have been standing ever since.
The announcement of the construction of Global Village also lead to the announcement of the destruction of Riverknoll. The apartments that have been standing since 1968 are soon to be torn down and replaced by Global Village dorm-like apartments. Nothing is set in stone, and RIT is still closing Riverknoll units over the summer in order to renovate. There were a few series of emails sent out where RIT announced that the demolition was imminent, then followed up with the specification that only a few of the buildings will be torn down over the summer of 2011 to make room for the next stage of the Global Village Construction.
